I-864 Minimum requirements met; CASE FE note states otherwise

Hi all, I am sponsoring my parents for a green card, and I received an CEAC message that states that documents are documentary qualified, however the next message states:

 

This case does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. For more information visit https://nvc.state.gov/aos. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview. For more information, please visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p.

 

This is confusing as it's my wife, I and two kids, so a household of 4, and we are sponsoring my mother (who got all DQ without this note) and my father (who is also DQ but with this CASE FE note). If i am reading the HHS poverty guidelines correctly a household of 6 (my wife, 2x kids, me and my parents) requires minimum of 46,487.00 income. I am well above that and I proved that with last three years of my income, which was: 57k, 62k, 65k, so I am not sure why is this an issue? What should I do about this? I can use my wife as a joint sponsor, but like i mentioned above I am over 10k for minimum needed; really confusing what to do.

The issue could be CURRENT income.  Tax returns prove past income.  Are you self-employed?  Anyway, the Consulate Officer will make the final decision.

No, I work for the same company that was listed on my latest tax return. Nothing has changed; if anything I got raises in the meantime.

Did you submit current pay stubs or an employment letter?

Current annual income is calculated as follows:

Latest pay period gross income multiplied times number of pay periods per year.

Example:  $1000 per week = $52,000 current annual income.

Yes, at the moment of filing (that was March), i submitted an overview of my paystubs from August of previous year, showing my every-2-week paychecks.

Just from reading here regularly,  it seems a lot of people are getting the same message

i would say a programmer has put the worng #'s into the system and this message is getting kicked out automatically

I tend to agree. We've seen a lot of cases getting this message. Some were cutting it close and others well above the minimum. It's kinda hard to say if they draw a line somewhere for safety measures or if they roll the dice on who gets the message. 

In your case one could say that they might think 10k above the minimum is not that much since the minimum is really low and with parents that need healthcare coverage it might be not enough. But again, I at least can't find their rhyme or reason so it's really up to the IO at the interview.
