05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I completely agree that ethanol is a farce.  I do disagree that it is bad for one’s car unless one is still driving a pre-2008 vehicle.  Most cars and truck have shifted to materials that are compatible with EtOH, so that is no longer an issue.  The same cannot be said for small engines (mowers, leaf blowers, etc.).  Also, unless someone uses E85 regularly, the water is not as big of an issue unless one parks their vehicles for a very long time.  Water in the fuel is a actually a bigger issue for diesels, and don’t get me started on people putting diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) in their fuel tanks.

 

Regardless, the EPA and the Government has gotten it wrong on EtOH, which makes me wonder what the outcome will be on EVs.  The fact that the current system of categorizing EVs as “zero emission” is a joke, the hydrocarbons that are emitted from EVs are excessive, but the government wants everyone to ignore that to get ICE vehicles off the road, then they will go after EVs.  Anyway, straying a bit off topic, rant over.

Must say that, once again, the midwestern DeKalb cornfields are superior to the Pioneer cornfields, regardless of seed variant.

Wyffel Hybrids is even growing better than Pioneer, for that matter.

Who knows how much of our food will go into our gas tanks?
