When I can apply for SSN for my fiance and her kids?

Finally my fiance and her kids arrived in the US this week. Can I apply for their SSNs as soon as we get married or can do it now or have to wait for a certain stage to cross in the temporary green card process where the EAD and Parole visa will be issued? I wanted to add them to my medical insurance and wondering can I do so without their SSNs. Appreciate your response. Thanks!

Is K-1 visa eligible for SSN?

K1 visa holders can get a social security number upon producing a valid, unexpired I-94. Apply two weeks after arrival in the U.S. so that the Social Security Administration (SSA) can verify your information in the SAVE-ASVI database.

U may at some point need to know more so USCIS has a booklet with rights and responsibilities

Thanks much! Will do. Normally the immigration officer staple's the bottom portion of the I-94 form to the individual's passport. I was a bit surprised to NOT see that in any of their passports other than "entry" stamp. My experience is from about 15+ years ago so the process has changed now? If we don't have the I-94 can we retrieve it online?

Book an appointment ASAP for your fiancee to apply for SSN in person, preferably before you get married.  There have been reports from other VJ members who were not able to get their SSN application processed after getting married and before getting their EAD.

Only the K1 visa holder is eligible to get SSN with a valid I-94, prior to getting EAD.  The K2 children must have EAD before they can be issued SSN.  Just apply for SSN for the kids using their I-485 and I-765 forms.

I found a way to do it online: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/recent-search

I hope this is as valid as the physical copy of the I-94 stapled in the passport at the port of entry. I could retrieve their I-94 copies here. I'm answering my own question so that others in the same situation should benefit from this post.

Thanks much and will schedule an appointment with the SSA office and go from there. I'll share my experience once I go through the process.

Schedule a visit to the SSA office asap, like yesterday. You only have until day 76 after entry for the SSN to be issued and every day counts!

I-94 has been electronic for past several years. You can present a print out of the page without problems.

Good to know. It proves that a long time passed by without me noticing it :)
