Hi guys,

Really hope you can give me some much needed advice here. Signed up just to ask this so apologies for no timeline right now.

Applied for an IR 1 visa, got through the whole process, approved last week. etc etc.

Paid £20 (!) for the courier to deliver it to my own home. Got the notification that it was shipped yesterday and would arrive today. The envelope was addressed to me but inside was completely the wrong passport!

What on earth do I do here? There's no one I can call. Like what the actual flip?! Absolute nightmare that just when I thought this 2 year process was over this happens!

You must contact the consulate......either by email, phone, or web site.

We contacted the US citizen emergency helpline to actually speak to a human being. They were very sympathetic and gave us a direct email address and told us the consulate would be expecting our email.

We have been asked to return the incorrect passport via the courier service. They are trying to locate and get our passport returned to them where they will then send it on.

This is obviously a huge breach of GDPR and I can't say I'm particularly satisfied with their responses thus far, but at least this is looking like it will hopefully be resolved.

It’s a courier mistake because they package and address the passports (and sometimes white envelopes of files) that are turned over to them by the embassy.  Here’s a contact number for DX Secure in case you want to call them as well because they have to figure out who has your passport.

Phone:  03332411100

Or Email: weeac_contactus+gb+courier+en@visaops.net

A story from a few years ago that resulted in a panic post in this forum.. A bloke with a fiancé visa arrived in the US with his sealed white envelope of papers to present to CBP. His passport was fine. When the officer opened his envelope, he said “these aren’t your files”. So there he is at the airport and can’t be admitted without his paper files. The guy at the airport asked, “whose files are those?”. The officer said he couldn’t give out that information but said the name is very similar to yours. The fiancé guy tried to read the papers on the desk and thought it was the exact same name except for middle initial. Fiancé names we’re different. Anyway, CBP let him in and leave the airport while it got sorted.

We on Visa Journey actually identified the other guy quicker than the embassy  by posting something like “Is there a K1 applicant on here named David Williamson” (whatever the name was).  He was ! So they contacted each other, and the embassy, and got it sorted. The other David was in the UK, not receiving his visa and white envelope because they didn’t know where the envelope was.

Thanks for the info. The guy we emailed said they told the courier to halt the delivery of the other man's envelope which is being returned to the embassy. We've returned his passport via the courier drop off location (thankfully we live in london which makes things a bit easier.)

As the embassy seem to be taking point on this we'll leave it in their hands for now and won't muddy the waters by getting in touch with the courier. Our lawyer seems absolutely furious and I wish the embassy contact was more apologetic about the situation.

That story about getting to the airport and it being the wrong papers is nightmare fuel. You can do everything right but you can't account for human error eh.

Thanks again!
