Hi all, VERY new to this platform,  quick question. So I received an email from NVC that my case was being sent to the embassy in Ghana, and I am wondering if it would be okay to get started on the DS 160 right away or to wait until the embassy  in Ghana contacts us first.

sorry if this question has been asked before, really not up to speed on how this community/forum works.

thanks for any input.

You can start filling out the DS-160 if you have the case number that NVC assigned.

You may not be able to pay the MRV fee and/or schedule the interview until the embassy sends you an email - each embassy has its own procedures for that.

Hi Amirra,

so we filed December last year got out first notice in Feb this year, second notice July and NVC just emailed this week that they are sending the case to the embassy in Ghana. So now I guess we wait for the embassy to contact us. So for US (my guy and I) from the time of filling to approval from USCIS was ~7 months. But I don’t know how long the second portion will take.
you can also look at timelines on here. Some people have been in this process for 2 years. I think the pandemic really impacted how fast/slow the process is.

hope this helps you a bit.
all the best in your journey.

Yeah, I’m aware. However we have the information needed for him to start (case number and invoice #), just asking if it’s okay to get started.

thanks for your input.

Did you get an invoice ID for your K1? We only got the case number, and I assume invoice IDs are not a thing for K1s since you're not supposed to pay anything to the NVC. Will we need it at all if it does exist?

I got the invoice number by calling NVC. I called as soon as they opened and was able to speak with someone within 10 minutes. I gave her the case number, beneficiary name and birthday and she asked who I was and then provided me with the invoice number. So you can call NVC and they will give it to you.

Hi Hawa, please after getting the notice that your case has been sent to the embassy what steps have you taken, we got that notice on 14/9/2021 but still haven’t heard anything from the embassy and I’m getting worried

The Ghana embassy isn’t sending anyone notices these days, you’re just delaying your case, once your case shows ready you should go ahead and pay your visa fees and make sure your ds160 is completed, create the ustravel docs account and look for available dates to book your appointment.
