Application for Travel Document past processing times?

Hi everyone,

I was admitted as a K1 visa holder in 2020. I applied for AOS mid-2020 but things got delayed due to missing information, etc.

Finally my case was received on March 12, 2021, along with my Application for Travel Document + Application for Employment Authorization.

My fingerprints were taken on July 26, 2021. As of July 29, my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview. I'm in California.

I thought it was common for the AP and/or EAD to be granted before the temporary green card. But I haven't gotten any updates on those, and I worry that I won't make it home for Christmas. I agree that "I miss my mom" isn't a valid motive to expedite a case lol. My question is: was it crazy to think I'd have my travel document within 6 months of the receipt date? Will it be granted at the same time as my temporary green card? Should I give up on Christmas already? 🤧

Thank you 💛

Some EADs and AP documents are taking 8 months or more.  No reason to give up hope.  You might get your green card first.  It happens sometimes.

I'd say there's a reasonable chance you get one or the other by Christmas. Still have three months, a lot can happen!

My EAD and AP were approved this week after 11 months! When I contacted USCIS a couple of months ago I got a refreshingly honest agent who said that they are just so far behind and she hates coming to work at the moment because all she does all day is tell people she doesn't know when they will be able to see their families.

If both your AP and EAD are now outside processing times you can make an enquiry, but chances are you'll just be told you'll get a response in 30 working days, then you don't get a response, so make another enquiry and get told you'll get a response in 20 working days, and the cycle continues.

Hang in there, it will come, Christmas is still a few months away, and you can always have an alternative Christmas a month or two late if you can't get home in December.

We filed in early July of 2020. We had our biometrics on August 20, 2021 (one year later). After that, my wife’s case statuses began updating quite quickly, and she is due to receive her EAD combo card tomorrow. It’s been a long wait, so hang in there!

It's here! 💕  My approval letter arrived a few days ago followed by my EAD card, so I immediately purchased plane tickets to go home for the holidays. All in all it took seven months after the receipt date, so it's not too bad.
