For sale: Dracula Castle

Price could go up to $135 million

BUCHAREST, Romania -- An heir of Romania's former royal family put Dracula's Castle in Transylvania up for sale Monday, hoping to secure a buyer who will respect the property and its history, a U.S.-based investment company said.

The Bran Castle is a top tourist attraction because of its ties to Prince Vlad the Impaler, the warlord whose cruelty inspired Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, "Dracula."

Legend has it that Vlad, who earned his nickname because of the way he tortured his enemies, spent one night at the castle in the 1400s.

Bran Castle was built in the 14th Century to serve as a fortress to protect against the invading Ottoman Turks. The royal family lived there from the 1920s until the communist regime confiscated it from Princess Ileana in 1948.

Following the end of communist rule in Romania, it gained popularity as a tourist attraction known as Dracula's Castle. In May 2006, the castle was returned to the princess' son, Archduke Dominic Habsburg.

No price was announced, but the castle could sell for more than $135 million, said Michael Gardner, chief executive of Baytree Capital, the company representing Habsburg.

06/01/2007 Visa arrived !

06/03/2007 Mayday on the plane POE Cincinnati

06/21/2007 Welcome Notice from USCIS

06/29/2007 Applied for SSN at the local Office

07/07/2007 Green Card arrived

Was posted in the Romanian news about a month or more ago. but who cares, i know id buy it and turn it into a nice lil bed and breakfast for the weird :)

I guess the US was a bit slow in getting the news :P

They were trying to see who in Romania could come up with the money equivalence of cows to buy it before selling it to the rest of the world :P

I remembered seeing it after my hysterectomy and laying in bed, i saw it on CNN. With all the percocet i was on, made me dream i had the money to buy it :)

It's not actually Dracula's castle, anyway, though he was apparently in the dungeon there for a few days. Dracula's castle is the Poienari Castle.
