We should really watch the language we use when giving advice on here. Some people’s comments are pretty insensitive sometimes 😔 we should always ask would I want someone talking this way to me if I am in this situation.

I probably should have mentioned in my original post, that I wonder if anyone has ever challenged the Affidavit of Financial Support.  I guess I originally worded my inquiry incorrectly.  I can get legal representation if need be, but I am really going through crisis and trying to figure out what I will ultimately be responsible for, in terms of unforeseen situations involving someone I may no longer ever have any contact with.

Do you mean challenged by the petitioner/US citizen, or by the immigrant?

Challenged by the petitioner.  Such as if they were in a situation like the one that I, as Petitioner, am involved.

You signed it presumably of your own free will, what would be the basis of your challenge?

Provided he doesn’t use means tested benefits, then he likely won’t be an issue. And I’m sure people have challenged it while in divorce court. We hear about some people having to pay alimony based on the I-864 and yet others not having to as well. It seems to be a judge vs judge issue.  I have yet to read on the forums about someone being asked to pay back anything means tested however.
