Tax return extension

Hi,

 

I am awaiting the CR/IR-1 interview in Montreal this December. My husband and I were married since 2018 and my husband filed tax return in 2018 separately.

However, we decided to file jointly in 2019 and then the pandemic hit. I could not travel to US to file ITIN ( which requires your passport to file ITIN). My husband filed the tax return extension for 2019.

 

I do have my husband's W2, pay stubs, and evidence of tax extension request. Are those enough to bring for the interview?

2019 taxes should have already been paid....even with an extension.  I think you will need either his 2019 transcript or a copy of his 1040 package for 2019.

The longest you can extend would be until October, 2020.  That 2019 tax return needs to be filed.  You could have sent him your passport by FedEX etc.  Get the 2019 tax return filed.

Filed is the keyword, not "paid".

Yep.  I used the wrong word.  Filed is correct....and correct terminology is important.  Thanks.
