Marc,

I have the same reaction to your post as featherb. I think you've shot yourself in the foot, if not in the balls.

Note also that the USCIS is simply applying the law - that's their job.

I met my Gala about four years ago, we were just friends at first, but after a while we both fell in love with each other and correspond by all means possible, phone, email, cam, exchanged gifts at holidays. We average about four emails a day to each other.

I asked her to marry me and we started the K1 process. So far, we are at the point of her going to get a visitors visa and being denied because she has a fiancee in America. I am under doctors orders to not travel, and had him write a letter to present to California. So, I can not go there, she can not come here and it seems like a catch-22.

.....

I am not sure what to do, but I know I will immigrate to Russia and live with her there if I have to. .....

Please, give me some guidance,

Thanks

Marc

I asked her to marry me and we started the K1 process. So far, we are at the point of her going to get a visitors visa and being denied because she

has a fiancee in America. I am under doctors orders to not travel, and had him write a letter to present to California. So, I can not go there, she can not come here and it seems like a catch-22.

I am about to write a letter to Uscis, showing the refusal of the travel visa, and the letter showing my restrictions to not travel in hopes we can get by the first meeting they so vehemently require.

We have done just about everything to get to know each other. I have talked to her more that I talked to my previous wife of 20 years. I have no doubts what so ever that this lovely woman will be the dream wife I have always sought.

But what to do. She was told at the consulate that without the first meeting, nothing else matters. Is it possible our government refuses to move into

the electronic age because of out dated and archaic restrictions.

I am not sure what to do, but I know I will immigrate to Russia and live with her there if I have to. I have bought a house, excellent transportation,

and can give her a good liffestyle. I did it all for her, I have no other reason to do these things if not for her.

She is the most precious thing in my life, yet our government wants us to meet once, or the whole deal is nill.

Got any suggestions??

I am about bald from pulling my hair out over this. I did not think love would have to pass such stringent examination.

Please, give me some guidance,

Thanks

Marc :help:

your best chance is to immigrate to Russia. You wil spend at least a year, fighting a denial and appealing it. No idea what may happen, depends on why you cant travel.

and...........get a grip!!!! you have never met her...meaningless until you do.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

There was a couple on VJ who were not able to meet in person due to medical reasons but received their visa in the end. It was a struggle for them but they are now married. I can't recall the screen name so you'll have to do a search to find her posts. Good luck.

If you can travel to immigrate to Russia, why not travel to meet her?

I guess I'm not surprised that there has been no response to this question.

Wow!!! So many helpful people with such good ideas. I deeply appreciate it.

Sorry I was not clear at first, We have known each other four years, I asked her to marry me a year ago and began the K1 process. This K1 process blocked her from getting a travel visa to the US to meet me. The reason for this is that the consulate now knows she has me, her fiancee, living in the US, and she has no apparent reason to return to Russia when the travel visa expires. Thus, she can not come here.

For me, flying is forbidden. My last flight made me so ill it took months to recover from a thirty minute flight.

Basically, I have a mis-wired brain, or mis-wired tubes in my ear connected to my brain. That was in'85 and the condition has deteriorated over the years and can not be corrected by surgery.

To answer your question, I am considering going by boat to Russia. However, My doctor has already warned me that the sea sick inducing waves on a boat will probably have the same effect. Basically, I lose my equilibrium for a long period when this effect occurs. Not being able to walk, constant nausea, blurred vision, and severe migraines are no fun for a long period of time, and the possibility of never fully recovering exists.

So that leaves a car. I started getting car sick about 5 years ago, but so far, a little dramamine keeps it tolerable. Driving means Mexico, or Canada.

More if's here. If she can get a travel visa to a country besides the USA, where would you suggest we meet? Mexico or Canada? Is it possible to meet in Canada, I have driven in Mexico before and it is not my favorite thing to do. When you see signs on the road "Bandits next 50 Miles" and personally

know a couple that disappeared on their way to Mexico City, and the husband was hispanic.

Anybody know about Canada?? Its a lovely country but I do not know anything about immigration laws there.

Again, thanks for all of your posts. They have given me a lot of ideas to explore.

As a USC with a passport, you'll have no trouble traveling to Mexico or Canada, so the issue will be whether she can get an entry visa to either or both. It would seem that border towns/cities would be a better choice on a couple counts. Certainly there are several easily reachable beautiful border cities with International Airports in Canada. Not so true with Mexico. All else being equal, I'd suggest looking into meeting in Canada first. Depending on where you live, perhaps a short boat ride to a Carribean Country would be a consideration as well.
