New requirements for US spouse and child

So I and my son would need visas? My son's a dual citizen, but we have to go to California from Montana if we want to go to the Philippine consulate for our region. That's not easy for us at all. It's a 19 hour drive or 2 hours by plane but it's 2 hours to the airport. No outreach things either. 😔

Crazy, looks like it's just a covid thing though. So it should go away eventually.

My understanding from my wife's relatives who work at BI, this is a permanent change.  There is no talk of ever stopping the pre trip visa.  That can certainly change but they are gearing up at the consulates for lots of requests.

Huge!  It doesn't make sense but it is most likely politics.  Imagine all the K-1 people who have to get their pre trip visas to meet.  How many young couples want to go through that?  It is a hassle for me and I'm a spouse.  Some people with ASEAN Diplomat status are safe though...LOL

What Phillipine documents does your son have?

"Please further be informed that as dual citizen, it is not mandatory to apply for a Philippine passport. You may use your US passport when travelling to the Philippines. You simply have to present your dual documents to the Philippine Immigration Officer as proof of Philippine citizenship." https://www.newyorkpcg.org/our-services/dual-citizenship Though, that page doesn't mention what documents for airline check-in will be accepted by airline employees.

Unfortunately the US and Canada are transitional members (and will probably always be due to visa policy).  So APEC cards don't work as VISA for USC.   But it does speed you up going thru the Immigration Lines!   And pre covid the only visa I ever had to get was China - everywhere else was visa on arrival.

I swore I read that you need a visa OR APEC diplomatic status but it is so convoluted right now that I trust what you say.

APEC cards from everywhere but US and Canada have the 3 letter country code that they can be used as a visa for printed on the back.   Each country makes its own choice when a full member countries national applies about extending an APEC endorsement.  It can take 6 months to get a card.  The Obama administration couldn't figure out what to do about going to a full APEC member.   So here we are.
