Hi everyone,

I received my combo card December of 2019 and we’re waiting for the interview date for the AoS. Because of COVID-19, everything is getting delayed and we submitted to renew my EAD to extend the expiration another 6 months. The only problem is my drivers license expires when my combo card expires.

My question is does anyone have experience or know if I’m able to renew my driver’s license in the state of NJ with a i-797 extension receipt?

Any feedback would be appreciated and thank you in advance for your help!

This is very dependent on which state you're in. It looks like you should be able to renew in person (as long as you can bring the 6 points of ID required). Recently I was unable to change the address of my DC license online, but in person they didn't care at all about my immigration status, just proof of address.

In New Jersey, sometimes you can renew your license online. Check the website or call to find out if you can. If you received a renewal form in the mail, there should be a letter that tells you if you can. Go to NJMVC.gov and find out which offices you can go to in order to renew it. Because of COVID, each office is only handling certain things. Expiration dates have been extended, so you may not have to worry about it yet. This might answer some of your questions:  https://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/about/FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.pdf
