I submitted k1 in Oct 2018.  They transfered me from California to Vermont service center. In June of last year I received an intent to deny letter. I wrote one last response to them. Id pretty much given up hope. Yesterday I came home to find an approval letter waiting for me from Uscis. Its been a rough year for me.. But finaly some good news. Keep your heads up my friends.

Vermont is rough. I won't pry into the details...just glad to see it worked out!

Another Canadian chiming in about K1, it is hard to be positive in these times, unfortunately K1s are not considered mission critical...but according to Montreal Consulate's twitter they announced starting Aug 18 they will be processing all Spousal/Child immigration visas of people who had cancelled interviews in March and April. I assume once they are close to being done with those they can start on the K1 folks who had interviews in March and April as well, before they can fully reopen their interview schedule to the public. So there is hope!!

Your profile shows you applied for the K1 in Nov 2016, but then you got married in Sept 2017. Was that the reason for the intent to deny letter? You're now in the spouse category?

It could be almost a year before they finish those. It says on their post that there will be a significant backlog. 😶

Does anyone have a list of embassies that are open?

Check to see if your embassy is processing visas and which ones. If your results return 999 that indicates that they are still not processing that visa type. Your mileage may vary.

There is a nicely written article giving the current situation. A must read in my estimation. It addresses the situation, and references China, but you can substitute China for your embassy and the information still holds true.

it could, but i doubt it because even when booking for interviews for K1 they would only be on wednesday and they'd only take i think 5 or something. so if assuming 4 weeks of wednesdays at 5, then thats 20 interviews a month. for March and April they'd be going through 40 ppl? unless CR1/IR1 had more date options then correct me. Plus, I am sure they can multitask. They were processing CR1/IR1/B1/B2/I/J/K1 etc and all that all the the time before covid. I'd say a 6 minimum wait to start.

In the mean time, you are able to fly to visit your partner in the US if you are able to. I just got back from the USA after 1.5 month stay myself. If not it is like someone else in this post said. I am thankful we are in the age of technology or else it would only be letters!

We were planning a 5 month visit soon. Considering everything's gonna take a while anyways! 🙂 We're not sure if that would cause any problems with the visa process but with Canada's 2 week quarantine law it's a lot easier to just take a long time off and take an unpaid leave.

Is there a way to specifically look at K visa processing times? I didn't realize until I used this tool on my mobile browser that there is a notation stating that "The All Other Nonimmigrant Visa wait time DOES NOT include K or V visa applications."

Nope. Immigrant and K visas are handled by a separate unit at the embassy/consulate, and there is no official means to check the queue timeline.

That's a good plan, I've just returned from a 1.5 month visit, currently doing my quarantine. With no news from my work we are considering me to visit him up to 5-6 months as well and only return to finish the K1 visa when the time comes.

They only do interviews one day a week? That's insane to me, no wonder there was such a long wait! Hopefully they'll do it more often than that since it's the only visa they're processing right now (I think)
