Hello, my husband and I just got the interview- appointment letter and as documents we have to bring that day we have: Green Cards, Other ID, Travel documents AND any Selective service Registration.
My question is about the last document "Selective Service". I am a women and my husband went in US first time when he was older than the age limit of 26 with a J1 Visa. So, we didn't register.....
I guess this is a list of documents that the office use to send to all the applicants....
Is my guessing correct?
Please advice.
Thanks so much.

That is a generic letter, if you two were already over 26 as you mentioned, just ignore the selective service part.

It asks for “any” selective service registration.

Your husband should go to SSS.gov and see if he was registered (verify or update registration) just to be sure.  If he never set foot in the USA before age 26, it is highly unlikely he was registered.

If he was registered then it is essential he print the results from sss.gov that show he was registered.

HI, thanks! Yes indeed he checked on SSS.gov and the result was "a registration record can not be found'. I printed this, so he can bring it to the interview! is this enough?

He can bring that letter if he wants but is not required. They won’t be asking him about that.

If you are a male over 26 or a female, it will not be brought up. And unless I'm mistaken, it is not required if you entered on a J-1 as it is a non-immigrant visa.

It is definitely brought up for males 26 and older. I was a male in my 50s when I naturalized and it was brought up.

It was not brought up at my interview. I was on a J-1 during the 90's and entered under k1 in 2015. Currently rapidly approaching the big 5-0

Sorry Mike, are you saying that they asked you about the selective service even if you were older than 26?

The age during naturalization is not related, the age when one was present in the US in certain status and when one became a GC holder matters. One can be an LPR since age 22 and naturalize at the age of 45. He would definitely be asked for selective service.

Hi, YES! thanks!! my husband was 37 when he got the Green card. Also, I found this on SSS.gov:

"3. Males Not Required to Register

The following classes of males are not required to register for Selective Service:

• Males over the age of 26;

• Males who did not live in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 years;

• Males who lived in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 years but who maintained lawful nonimmigrant status for the entire period; and

• Males born after March 29, 1957 and before December 31, 1959."
