Registering for free ESL class while on K1 visa, not yet married or applied for AOS

Hi everyone,

 

My fiancee arrived a few days ago from Brazil, we will be getting married in less than a month and apply for AoS shortly after. 

There's a free ESL class she can register for soon near us and I'd like to have her enroll.

Since it's been less than 60 days since she arrived, would immigration look at her enrolling in a free ESL class

 as her not following through with the purpose of the K1 visa, i.e. getting married, and deport her??

She's allowed to do other things on her K1 besides getting married. I think it's a great idea to have her sign up for that class. Not only will it help with the language, it will also give her something to do, and she'll get to know some people.

ESL classes or any types of classes are great activities for someone coming on a K-1 visa while they wait for the work permit. Volunteering (in clearly defined volunteer only roles, not something that could turn into a job) is another type of activity. The more your fiancée and then spouse can have things to do to feel productive, meet people and learn the culture while you are at work, the better off you will all be. Sign her up!

September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)

October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
