I have recently gained citizenship and I want to file for my 7 year old son. His mother and I are not together but because his visa was denied 3 times, we feel like getting him his citizenship is the right way to go. The problem now is, I don't know what application I need to submit. Do I file a form I-130 or N-600? He lives in a different country with his mother and she's the primary caregiver for now.

Thanks Arken but can you please explain? Did you say "yet" because of the oath ceremony that hasn't happened or is the i130 a prerequisite for N600? If not, when can I file N600?

Your son would need to immigrate first, thats why you need to file the I130 first. Once they arrive in the US as a permanent resident, they automatically become a citizen by virtue of your citizenship. You can then file to get them a certificate of citizenship if you choose, and/or a passport.

What do you mean with “the oath ceremony that hasn’t happened”?

Your oath ceremony?
