Passport to expired soon - AOS

Hello,

I entered the USA last month with a K1 visa and we just got married last week.

I am not working on filing my AOS documents with EAD and Advance Parole.

My current passport will be expired in May 2020. Would you recommend to renew it before or during AOS?

Thank you,

If you plan on using the AP document, you'll need a valid passport to board the plane I would imagine.

Assuming the embassy of your country will return the old passport to you, you can renew your passport. but just to be on the safe side make copies of your visa page.

during out AOS interview they asked for IDs, you can give either passport or EAD(if you have it) she barely looked at the passport, it was more for the visa page.

If you apply for AOS now using your current passport#, also use the same passport for the biometrics. and let's say the interview happens to be after May, then bring your expired passport to the interview, along with the new passport(if you renewed it) and let them know you have a new passport now incase they need to update it on their end.

AOS/EAD/AP ->: 11/29/18 - NOA1: 12/04/18

Biometric NOA:  12/14/18  Biometric Appt: 12/26/18

Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview: 1/16/19

EAD/AP approval: 3/18/19

AOS Interview Appt: 6/4/19

AOS Interview: 7/10/19

AOS Approved: 7/23/19

GREEN CARD IN HAND: 7/26/19

Thank you very much for your comment! I checked on my consulate website and they will be taking my passport...

Assuming I am receiving my EAD before the interview, could I use it for ID? And bring along my expired passport which contains all my visas and that I used since the beginning of the application. I am not planning on travelling anytime soon anyway, so I guess I could renew it once the interview passed. Thank you!

good idea, i wouldn't bother renewing it now if you aren't traveling.
