USPS Priority Letter held in Customs? Anyone else?

I had to send a letter to the Consulate in Guangzhou and mailed it on the 9OCT2019.

 

Tracking says:

 

Your item is being held in Customs at 10:06 am on October 16, 2019 in GUANGZHOU, CHINA.

 

For over a week.  Its only 3 pieces of paper....

 

Is this normal?  Should I resend the letters with another service?  Do I need to call the Consulate and have them do something??

It will eventually clear, but in my experience using the USPS for shipping international has never been very fast or reliable.  In the future I would consider an alternative.  I've had USPS shipments held up for over 2 months in customs before but never more than a few days with other services.

I only use USPS priority international so it transfers dirently to EMS, otherwise packages seem to get stuck in customs.  Perhaps contact the consulate and ask if you can email a photocopy if you still have the original, and show them your parcel trapped in customs.

EMS is an international UN postal consortium (including US and China), which delivers to ANY address in China with door-to-door and signature tracking. The others (FedEx, DHL, and UPS) only deliver in the bigger markets.
