It’s not like they will give you SS card in person. After you apply in person, they will send you the card in a few weeks. So you might as well wait for the already applied card. There is no temporary SSN.

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0203325025 "The only official document verifying an individual's SSN is the SSN card. A third party may ask an individual to obtain a Numident to verify his or her SSN. The third party may also seek valuable personal information contained in the Numident record. While the number holder (NH) is entitled to his or her own Numident record, he or she may be unwittingly disclosing more information than is necessary to verify his or her SSN. Disclosing Numident information unnecessarily to third parties greatly increases the NH's vulnerability to identity theft and SSN fraud. In addition, persons can easily duplicate or alter Numident records."

sure there is a temporary printout if you need the SSN right away.

Only if you have already been provided a SSN (like in case of lost card). If they are still in the process like verifying certain info, you won’t get the temporary print with SSN.

Hi guys, my wife just got her EAD/AP combo approved, on the 765 form we checked for the SSN to be mailed to us as well however we have been seeing people getting the SSN a few weeks after the combo card. For the sake of saving time, can we go to the SSA office and get a temporary SSN card or such?

The process that you are referring to is not very reliable. Consider filling out a SS-5 on line at home, and then going to a SSA office and apply for your SSN.

Good luck on your immigration journey.
