I don't know what to do after I-130 approved

I am doing all the process to get my green card through marriage, my husband and I already sent The form I-130 and it was approved then they sent my case to the NVC. I Want to start the process for the form I-485 so do I have to do all the process on the NVC( national visa center) before sending the I-485 form? Or how does that work?

Thank you in advance.

If you are doing consular processing then an I-864 packet would be needed.

I really don't understand what is going on, because I live in the US I put my address here and everything, but then they are doing everything for the embassy in my city Bogotá, Colombia they say my appointment will be there that once I send everything they will send it there so I don't get it.

Yes I am, I live in the US and when I did everything I was on my tourist visa

That’s because you didn’t file the I-485. You could have done that when you filed the I-130 and you’d be much closer to an interview by now. Anyway, all is not lost. I believe you can just file the I-485 now and wait for the interview.

Ignore what the NVC said. You are not going that route. You can just file the I-485.

I'm assuming your spouse selected consular processing on the I-130, hence why it was sent to NVC.

Although you probably should have filed the I-485 beforehand...there was no need to wait until I-130 approval.

Send the I-485 packet now, and USCIS should request the I-130 from NVC.

One does not "live in the US" on a tourist visa. They visit the US.

@geowrian could you expand on the "USCIS should" part.

A different recent thread also needs input: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/709918-aos-sent-to-consular-filling-after-approval-of-ead-help/

"The issue is the following: rather than being processed here in the United States under the I-485, USCIS sent the documentation over to NVC for consular processing."

Once you file an I-485, it will go through NBC for initial review, then to the USCIS field office. During that process, USCIS will retrieve the approved I-130 from NVC on the beneficiary's behalf so they can adjudicate the I-485.

There are some occurrences where either USICS doesn't do this or NVC is too slow to return it, so they don't have the I-130 by the time of the interview. As such, they will delay adjudication until they get the approved I-130.

Even more rarely, people have been told to file an I-824 to request the approved I-130 be sent to USCIS, although this is incorrect...USCIS would be the one to request it.

The I-824 would be like if you selected AOS on the I-130 but then late switched to consular processing so you need USCIS to send the approved I-130 to NVC.

Where were you when you file I-130?. It looks like it was a mistake when you filed I-130.
