Since there are so many kitty lovers already on this site, I thought I would do my bit to encourage those who have thought about getting a cat but haven't yet (or those who want to add to their menagerie:-) ) so, here is my public service announcement on behalf of the American Humane Association - June is Adopt A Cat Month!

"Join American Humane and 9Lives® Morris’ Million Cat Rescue™ Campaign As They Celebrate Adopt-A-Cat Month® This June

One of the country’s most famous felines, Morris® the Cat, is lending his star power to American Humane’s Adopt-A-Cat Month this June to help homeless cats.

Adopt-A-Cat Month is held annually at the time of year when shelters around the country are inundated with litters of kittens in desperate need of loving homes. The event encourages cat adoptions from shelters, promotes the benefits of owning a cat and informs the public about how to care for their pets responsibly.

This year, Morris® the Cat reprises his role with American Humane while he leads a national campaign to find loving homes for 1 million homeless cats -- 9Lives® Morris’ Million Cat Rescue™. Morris® the Cat is supported in this effort by his newly adopted pal, Li’l Mo™, who was the first rescued cat of the campaign.

Consider these statistics on cats:

According to The Berlin Longevity Institute, cats can add as much as 10 years to their owners’ lives.

Picking up a cat has a nearly instantaneous calming effect on humans, causing blood pressure to drop and the heart rate to slow.

The estimated population of homeless cats in the United States (70 million) is almost equal to the number of owned cats (75 million).

Throughout the spring and summer, animal shelters across the country are inundated with dozens of litters of kittens. Tragically, about 71 percent of these animals will be euthanized because there are not enough loving homes.

Improve your life with a cat’s companionship, and combat the tragedy of overpopulation! Visit your local animal shelter to adopt a cat -- in June or any time of year that works best for you.

you can check around also in the computer for different rescue groups on certain breeds you are looking for, i got one one time that way. i got a Ragdoll once that i could have never afforded for free....

OH I so would love to but alas I am allergic to kitties & their fur (and hubby won't let me bring in an allergin to the house).. SOOOOO please adopt a kitty for those of use who would LOVE a kitty but whom kitties make sick & sneezy!!

I am also horribly allergic to cats but I them so much. We had tons of cats growing up but in my teens I developed an allergic reaction to them (and just about everything else). I encourage everyone to adopt a cat. They are such wonderful creatures and really require minimal care...all they need is the basics and a lot of love

There are some cats which don't trigger an allergic reaction... They lack some enzyme in their saliva that causes the itching/runny noise. Somebody started to breed them and sell them for $$$$$, unfortunately.

Our kitty is from the shelter and my parent's cats back in ol'Europe were always cats who kinda ended up in front of our house, meowing for shelter/attention/FOOD.
