affidavit of support i-134 for a friend

Hello,

 I was asked by a friend to see if I would do an affidavit of support i-134 for him. His wife is currently on government assistance and does not meet the support guidelines. I would be able to get him a job so he would not be on government assistance, but since they are married would she need to get off assistance so I would not be responsible for her has well?

What visa did your friend get here on (or is he not in the US yet)? Sounds like your are talking about the I-864. When he gets permission to work, the money he earns will count toward the household income which may affect his wife's government assistance (it depends the assistance she is receiving).

I 134 is for K1 and fiance visa so if it is a K1 ,  it will be quite a while before he can work

so, you need to know "does he just call her his wife?   or are they married?

Correction, yes a  I-864.  He is married and filing for CR-1. I don't mind signing for him, but did not want to be held responsible for his US wife since they are married.  I will also talk with her about how his income may change her assistance.

Ok,   of he got the visa , the green card would come soon (ours was a month) / that is help as he could work faster

and, as said above,  you are not responsible for the USC

 

be ware if he comes,  he will need health care insurance and this is one of the expensive parts of the process
