For those that have immigrated from Canada.  How do you obtain a police certificate from Canada? What do you ask for,  what kind of police certificate? How long does it take?

Hi! You need the PRIVACY ACT. If you are in Toronto, you can go to ACE fingerprinting agency. They will take your finger prints and picture and they send it right away to RCMP online. If you have no problem, you will get the report in 10days or less. Mine took less than a week to arrive. It is fingerprint based but fingerprints and picture wont show on the paper you will receive.

Ok. First, search for RCMP authorized fingerprinting agency in his area. Then before going, he should call them first and ask if they know about this new canadian police certificate that US immigration requires. Some agencies doesnt know about this and still confused. I suggest he call them first to confirm and avoid paying fee for the wrong certificate.

They changed it Sept 2018. So many people got confused including me. I got lucky the guy in the fingerprinting agency knows about it. I know someone who got scolded by some police or rcmp employee and paid 200 cad and was given the wrong certificate. The pic i posted above is what they require now.

Hi there,

we we just received noa2 and are getting our documents together. My fiancée went to and rcmp authorized fingerprinted agency and just had hers sent to Ottawa.

There was no option for certified document, and the officer explained that the only certified document under privacy act goes to the police.

Should we we be worried or investigate further?

The privacy act is not certified i think. It’s just a simple paper stating you have no record. Sample pic above. 😊

I've seen on the govt of Canada websites that you can go to your local police station, too. Has anyone else done this?

Yes, my husband went to the local police station (in a suburb of Vancouver) with a printout of exactly what he needed from the website. He had to make an appointment since they only do fingerprints at certain times. They weren't familiar with the request, but since he had the printout, they just ordered exactly what it said. He received it 2 weeks later. I think he paid around $75 for it.

That's great to know! Thank you so much.
