CR1 expired, finally support question

Hi all, 

Sorry 8f this has been asked and answered already. If you've sponsored a spouse on a CR1 visa and never filed the I751 and the CR1 expired a year ago. Are you still financially responsible for them? I did an infopase with USCIS in 2017 notifying them that I don't know the person whereabouts. They said ok just bring copy of divorce decree. Been trying to serve it but they're in the wind so no clue where to find them. I just want to be done with this person once and for all.

You can do divorce in absentia.

 

 Divorce doesn't end the obligation.   Death, departure,  citizenship or 40 quarters of qualified employment

You are responsible for them as long as they are in the United States for 10 years (40 Quarters) or social security paid in unless they leave or die or become a citizen.

Yes the obligation continues, as others noted.

You will likely never hear about it again...it is rarely enforced. That said, there is a non-zero chance some agency will send you a bill one day if they use/used certain public benefits.
