Hello,

We got married in Florida and my certificate states my maiden name also. I filed all my forms with my married name, as I intend to take my husband name. I wanted all my official documents to have my married name. Also I’ve heard changing after is  costly.

The forms ask you to write any previous names you have been associated with, so that’s when you can write your maiden name.

Good luck with it all !!

This is exactly what my wife did and it worked out fine without issues.

This was informational folks.

Here is our steps:

  1. Apply to AOS, AP and EA using married name 'FirstName MidleName MySurname'
  2. With Marriage Certificate try to change Social Security name
  3. Try to get a Drivers Permit whit whatever name she get on SS
  4. Try to get Drivers Licence with NOA from AOS (married name)
  5. Rename SS, DL, Bank account, credit card, etc if needed.

Suggestions are welcome.

Hi all, on my marriage certificate (Florida) my wife’s birth name was on it as it was issued initially with her birth name and recorded after marriage the same way. We also got her social security number a few days after she made he POE and it is in her birth name.

I filled out all four forms 485, 765, 131 and 864 with her birth name and mailed. I felt it would be easier, that being said as I read through all these comments I realize I will have some charges to pay, can you anyone give me what would be required and cost and how long that will take to change her name with this process after green card?
