Hello,

The time to submit tax returns are upon us, but we have one predicament if anyone can kindly shed some knowledge . I was wondering if we would have any problem filling taxes when my last name on my w2 is my married name but the havent updated the last name on my ssn which is still my maiden name.

Thank you!

No problem.  It is done by social security number.   File the return with you married name.

Go see SSA soon and change it.

You would file the tax return using your name as currently reported with the SSA office - or else you'll probably get a rejection for a SSN-Name mismatch.

When you e-File, depending if you use a DIY software or go with a tax professional, the software will usually let you indicate if the name is shown differently on the W-2.

No, the IRS does name match with SSA records.   IRS instructions specifically say to do it in SSA name

YMMV
