I have a doctors letter as recommened by other members and my medical records.  I am still on antidepressants but have never received counseling. I was referred a few years ago due to self harm but havent self harmed since.

I know I'm almost garunteed to require a phyc exam.  Is there any use in me trying to arrange this before my medical?

Yes.  If you can meet with a psychologist a few times before the medical so you can have a clean bill of health before the medical that would be ideal.

It is definitely advisable. The strength of the medical letter might possibly be enough but if you are able to arrange a psych evaluation beforehand, go for it as it strengthens your case and will lessen the chance of a delay.

In London they don't require counseling or a psych exam for everybody with a mental illness history. If your doctor letter is thorough, says you are no longer a threat to yourself or others, and you act stable at the exam then that should be sufficient. I know of many in London over the last 10 years who passed with a GP letter. It's up to you.

Thank you.  I'm going to wait.  My doctors letter is very brief, states shes treated me for depression, what medication I'm on, I'm stable and not a threat. If they require it then so be it.  I need to stop being in such a rush. What will be will be.
