APPLICATION TO REMOVE CONDITION ON RESIDENCY EXPIRING

Hi all!

 

Last year I applied to remove the conditions on my residency. Apart from the receipt of

the application and the extension of my residency for a year, I haven't heard back from USCIS since.

The one-year extension I got is expiring in 3 months and I am not sure what to file for next. 

Do I file for another application to extend the extension?

 

Any help would be appreciated!

You should have gotten a document which extends the expiration date of your GC by 18 months.

If you didn't receive your 18 month extension letter, you can contact USCIS to get them to send you another copy or you can try to make an infopass appointment to get a I-511 stamp in your passport.

No, just take the expired green card and first extension letter and make an appointment at the nearest USCIS office to get a I551 stamp

So I just tried to schedule an Infopass appointment at the USCIS field offices servicing our area (Charlotte, NC and Arlington , VA) and neither of them accept walk-ins or appointments for stamps. Probably has something to do with the shutdown??

Does anyone know if I can just schedule an appointment in any office, even one outside my area?

Nope.  You might try calling USCIS to see if they will schedule an appointment.

The shutdown didn't affect USCIS. USCIS is mostly self-funded, so the shutdown did not affect it.

Do what @missileman says, call USCIS and try to schedule an appointment, explain your 18 month extension expires in three months.

Shutdown has nothing to with it. 

 

From what I heard, USCIS is trying to do away with self-scheduling infopass. They are phasing out the part that people can schedule an appointment themselves. You have to call and they schedule appointment. 

 

Yes, it sounds very counter-intuitive since they now have to staff all the calls to make appointments. But again, very seldom anything the US Government does in terms of immigration make any sense at all.
