My wife's passport is expiring in August.  We are looking to take a trip up to DC to renew her passport in Feb.  So with that, I have 2 quick questions:

- Can we concurrently complete the Report of Marriage at the same time and have the new passport reflect in her married name?

- Will she get her current (old) passport back the same day she applies? (Currently going through AOS and I'm certain we will need that, with the visa, for any appointments)

If you guys got married in NC then you can go to the embassy in DC and do both things concurrently.

It's been reported by some that you need to complete the ROM first and then the passport, which happened to us. At the time DC was the only one that required this and not some of the other locations. But I have also heard that you can do both.

Also, there are outreach programs. Next one near NC is VA Beach 19 January. http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/news/6605/589/2019-Consular-Outreach-Schedule/d,phildet/

If you attend in VA then you can visit Jolly Bees as it is near by and I am sure your Asawa would enjoy it.

Thanks @Greenbaum.  Unfortunately, I'm out of the country on business that week.  And I'll save my spicy chickenjoy and spaghetti with "ketchup" on my next trip to the Philippines 😁

Still one question I need help with on this topic.  Will she get her "old" passport back while the new one is being processed?  We have a trip planned where she will need her passport as identification to get through airport security.

Update on this.  We ended up going to DC over the weekend to conduct ROM and renew the passport.  if you plan on doing this concurrently, here is some helpful information.  First, schedule your appointment online with the embassy.  If you plan to walk in, expect to wait a long time.  Second, you must do the ROM first, before you renew the passport if you plan on taking your spouse's last name.  We didn't know that and scheduled the passport renewal first.  Because of this, we ended up waiting 6+ hours to complete the process.  After giving all the required docs for the ROM, it will take about an hour to be processed and approved.  So, look to schedule your passport renewal 1.5-2 hrs after the ROM appointment.  Also, if you plan on scheduling multiple appointments, you will need another number.  You can only schedule 1 appointment per phone number.  We used both my wife's and my phones to do this.  The consular section is across the street from the embassy.  And pay attention to your phone when it is close to your appointment time.  They are very good at sending out texts when it is your turn.  As well, they are not very happy if you are not paying attention and have to call out your name.  If this happens, plan to be scolded when you get there.

We are hoping for a quick turn around on the passport, as we just got your interview date for AOS as April 2.  We are hearing that passports recently have been taking 2-3 weeks to be sent back.  Fingers crossed.

I should have mentioned completing ROM first .. some things are old hat to me and I forget to pass that along.   Sorry.    (I could blame it on old-timer's disease  ;) )

My wife's passport took roughly three weeks back in November.  So it is possible, but who knows. Good luck

Finally done.

Hey Scott, where do you schedule the ROM appointment on the website?  We are going on the 14th to DC to renew passport with married name and I see you get in queue once you arrive or something.

Here is the link to schedule your appointment:  https://kiosk.na1.qless.com/kiosk/app/home/10000000126.

As I said, if you're doing ROM and Passport, schedule ROM first.  You will need a 2nd cell phone number for the passport renewal appointment.
