Hey guys,

Is there anyone who can help me with this? I would like to fly home to see my grandma on her big birthday celebration in the beginning of July. But I am quite worried that my AP won't get here in time (the VJ prediction says early June but I have learned the hard way... My K1's NOA2 happened three months later than predicted 😂). Does anybody know if any travel insurance would help if I am unable to fly? I mean, it is quite a serious reason why I wouldn't be able to fly but most insurance companies are very particular on when they actually cover you... Thank you!

Do you have your flights already booked? Is that what you mean? (Sorry, i read your post several times & at first thought you meant you want travel insurance to act as an AP)

Sorry, but I didn’t understand very well your question. You have started writing about AP and ended it writtig about insurance companies.

However, I will try help you (if I do not, I am sorry). You need a AP or GC to fly out the country, while they are processing your AOS

There is a option to request a expedite for AP. If you go on line you can read all those reasons to apply for it. Although, your grandma birthday it is not a reason to expedite a AP and I feel so sorry to informe it. I strongly recommended you go on line and read about “expedite criteria” might one of those apply for you.

I personally have finger crossed to get AP aproved before VJ prediction. It say on late May and I would like late April. I would love go to my country on my b-day.

you can NOT leave the USA without advance parole or green card. No idea what insurance are you talking about.

You mean you booked a ticket but not sure if you can get money back if you unable to fly to see your grandma? I think this question not related to immigration forum. Just dont leave without AP no matter what.

Im glad i wasnt the only person who misunderstood her post... also i think personally it would raise red flags having a future flight booked without AP/GC yet... i would NEVER risk that, personally.

Hi all,

thank you, I obviously know that I cannot leave the country without the AP. My question is, if I book my flight and end up not being able to fly (not having the AP yet), is there any insurance that would cover my flight ticket cost? I know some insurance covers if you're not able to fly due sickness and a loss of a family member but I this is quite a different case... I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this is all. But thank you and sorry for misunderstanding :)

I truly think you shouldn't even risk booking a flight whilst waiting for AP/GC.. it may raise a red flag for your application if they do passport background checks? idk exactly what checks they do but if your passport number came up on a booked flight for the future without your AP/GC, then it would raise concern to USCIS, surely?

I would also say that travel insurance wouldn't cover cancelling your flight just because of immigration purposes, maybe best to post a separate thread on the forums to see what others suggest?

Some airlines like KLM, AirFrance, Delta have a thing that you can get an economy standard ticket (not economy light, which is the cheapest) and you can eventually change the dates with a fee of 150USD or so. I did that in the past, you don't have to provide any justification. I don't think they do any background check on your passport number to see if you have bought any ticket. Also you can add your travel info (passport number etc) even 72 hours before the flight, so I wouldn't worry about USCIS background check.

Question:

Can I still still use my unexpired passport for international traveling?  I haven't changed it to my new married name, and it still has my maiden name. I may need to travel for work. I so far have my SSC, and drivers license with my married name, but I read I shouldn't have an issue if I take my marriage certificate (just in case).

I think so, if you carry with you others documents (as you mentioned above). And then,  you are able to explain and prove why you have “two different” names.

Thanks! I would assume so also. I've read that they only require passport names to match the name on the airline ticket, but for whatever reason to have the marriage certificate just in case. Has anyone traveled like this?
