All those "Can I have ceremony before K1 visa/before POE" threads should just be locked automatically. It's getting ridiculous.

Inexplicably, they seem to be on the increase!?

you wanna hear a good one?

in a facebook k1 group im in, some couple had gotten an RFE. it was for an unchecked box, proof of meeting, and a court record for petitioner. pretty simple stuff to take care of. it had been 45 days or so since they sent their reply in and she was wanting to know how long it might take.

But....

in their reply, for proof of meeting, they said they GOT MARRIED in a non legal non binding ceremony.

her question was not about that (but it got my attention REAL quick!) but i told her she probably killed an otherwise easy approval 😕

all because they gave way MORE info than what was asked for.

i did actually feel quite bad for her. i know, rare for me, but it happens on occasion lol

LOL.  But......wow!  I am always shocked and dismayed at the abject lack of research done by visa applicants.

Sometimes I prefer to believe it's trolls because otherwise it means people don't care in throwing in the trash months and months of waiting (many of them with K1 visa in hand) , $$$ invested, etc and suddenly decide to do something so stupid and risky that can jeopardize the whole effort they did. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Yes, well, with that line of thinking we will be wanting parenting licences before people allowed to have children. The process is not easy, and in all honesty it rather preposterous that exist this grey land between K-1 and CR-1 where you can be somehow "too married" for one and "not married enough" for the other. It also created this predatory space for lawyers, and less the scrupulous companies (including the one appear to be partnered with VJ) to prey on applicant who can't/won't spend hours and hours researching subtle topics of what should be relatively straightforward process.

should be an IQ test before procreating as well lolololol

the process is not predatory or complicated it does however, require reading and following instructions. IF you are not capable of such, then a lawyer is a good idea. Seen a few lawyers who needed IQ tests, too.... come to think of it lololol

I've spent three years researching (to ensure I had as complete as possible knowledge of what I needed to do to get my fiance here) and still learn something new every day. If you're not willing to put in time to thoroughly research and understand the process, how serious are you about it? I research anything important - from the car I bought to the area we bought our house in (and my research on that netted us an additional lot (consisting of almost 5 acres of land) that the attorney 'conveniently' didn't put on the original sales contract that was supposed to be included.

Smart people research. Or at least hire someone to research FOR them....
