Expedite AP and EAD (split)

I'm gonna apply again for an expedite AP because of a family loss. My previous one was canceled because my applications were rejected due to a bouncing check.

 

I want to return to France for Christmas period with my wife to have a ceremony with my family, but I looked at the the tickets price and it's really expensive. Does anyone knows if I can also apply for an expedite EAD, justifying I'll need to work when back to the US, to compensate de cost of the travel?

Expedites are granted based on need, with guidelines noted here: https://www.uscis.gov/forms/expedite-criteria

A vacation is not a basis for an expedite. The financial loss of taking the vacation is an avoidable cost (by not taking the vacation), so this almost certainly not qualify under the "severe financial loss" guideline.

It is not for a "vacation", it's to have a ceremony for a close family member who passed away, since I couldn't be there for the funerals. My wife want to be present too, so we want to go during her Christmas vacation, but the tickets are gonna be very expensive. So I'm considering maybe to also ask for an expedite EAD, because our finances are gonna be affected with tickets at more than 1700$ for that period.

Ah, okay...funerals (and similar events) are another story. All you said was a ceremony for the family, which sounded like a marriage ceremony (very common for K-1 applicants to have another celebration abroad after getting AP).

I personally wouldn't try on the financial criteria...the cost is still something optional and the cost of normal functions regardless of immigration considerations. I would go for the emergency or humanitarian criteria instead personally.

Thanks, yes that's what I planned to do originally, but seeing the prices at this period scared me a little. It's another frustration on top of everything happening, but the main thing is to be able to be with my family. But since it's usually a combo card, I thought maybe I could avoid some financial difficulties and keep my mind busy by being able to work a soon as can once back to the US. I guess I'll just apply for the expedite AP first and I'll see later if an expedite EAP is needed.
