How do we prove our communication?

We are both in the early stages of learning the other's language. I can read portuguese but I have a difficult time speaking it still. Mainly due to non-use. We can communicate very well using programs like IM Translator and using translation books. We use them to Instant Message and email. If we show our email records then will this satisfy the interviewer? Can you say more about how we can prove that we communicate with each other well? Thanks.

You are correct, show emails from each other, chat logs, phone bills where you have called each other if you have talked at all on the phone, ecards, and letters if you have sent each other letters through the mail you can show them this also. I wish you both all the best on your journey!

You will need that for the interview they also might ask you how many time a week do you contact each other and how. They might even ask you what number that you use.

They might also ask you when was the last time that you talked was?

I think you should bring your email record to the interview. For me, when I went to the interview, the interviewer didn't ask to see any evidence at all. In your case the interviewer might ask you one of these questions ( I got a list of suggested questions from some K1 websites)

How do you two communicate?

If there is a language difference, then how do you communicate?

Lack of a common language is a red flag for these types of visas. Gather your evidence keeping this in mind so that you can convince the CO that your relationship is a legitimate one. Only you know what that evidence is. Highlight it so that the consulate can see that you can communicate easily.

Is there any way you can attend the interview? I know some consulate allow it.

For your petition to be approved, you only need to prove that you have met within the last year.... you'll have plenty of time to continue to learn each other's language by the time/if your petition is approved and your interview is granted. Keep some of your correspondence, as you have planned and don't worry about it now.

I used phone records(mobile and home) and emails. We also had cards from each other as well.

This is our biggest red flag! I am learning Turkish and Omer is learning English- His is much better than mine! But, I find it imperative that we attend the interview together. Omer is bringing all of his celluar receipts of phonecalls to me, and I am bringing all of my pre-paid Turk cell phone card receipts. It wil document the hundreds of hours we have talked on the phone. I am also printing all of our e-mails, with all translations from our Turkish translator.

"Going to the interview" or "sitting in on the interview". In Vietnam, you can show up at the place where they have the interviews with your fiancee, but from my understanding, the petitioner can not actually go into the interview itself with the beneficiary. Like another poster said, some consulates allow both to be in the interview together, some don't.

This whole topic of communication is a concern for me as well. My fiancee is studying English and I'm studying Vietnamese. Neither of us is fluent in both but we manage to communicate through a Tieng Viet / English mixture. If most people saw us talk, they would probably just scratch their head in confusion. I share your concern. I wonder what the CO will say in the interview as well regarding communication or lack there of.
