Spouse lost job - need another sponsor?

My spouse made 65k in 2016, 93k in 2017 and in 2018 he made 48.5k until June when he lost his job. He was unsuccessful at finding another job as his skill set is very specific.

Do I still need a joint sponsor or can I still use my husband for I-864 since has did made well above the poverty line when he was working?

He also owns a house that he rents out, a 2001 paid off Mustang Cobra car, and a 2017 truck that he's still making payments on.

His current income is $0 if unemployed, so he needs sufficient assets OR a joint sponsor. Past income from his taxes are not current income so it won't qualify.

Note that unemployment compensation can be counted, although this often is not sufficient on its own.

 

He can use the equity on the house as an asset, assuming he provides sufficient documentation. The same goes for the paid-off car (he can't use both though as it would cause an undue hardship to sell all his vehicles).

No just one that he rents out. We live in a rental.

Will it be seen badly that i'm using a joint sponsor and my spouse in unemployed at the moment? Or is it common?

He's a veteran so he does get about 13k a year for his disability

No issue with a joint sponsor. In fact, the only time a joint sponsor should be utilized is when the primary sponsor's income is insufficient.

DONE FOR TWO YEARS!!! ;)

 

Filed everything ourselves with no RFE's or delays.

 

CR1 for Child under 21 (20 at time of filing)- Filed by LPR Spouse for his son

4/12/20   NOA1 rec'd

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

9/15/22 APPROVED! Now to wait for NVC and interview....
