Incorrect "Residence Since" Date

Hey guys, so I finally received my GC...only to discover they put the wrong "residence since" date on it!!!!! I am infuriated. Our interview was October 2. I got the email that it was mailed to us October 9.

On the card, it says, "Resident since 08/08/17" and expires "08/08/19". That is when we filed, not when we were approved. I am going to file I-90 and make an Infopass. Anyone know how long it takes to get it sorted out? 😡

WHAT.

USCIS shows 4.5-12 months (https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/), meaning they try to get 50% within 4.5 months and 90% within 12 months. However, many of these cases look like they are an initial issuance which tends to be much quicker.

That said, it does look like they are catching up on their backlog in this area (https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/Reports and Studies/Immigration Forms Data/All Form Types/Quarterly_All_Forms_FY18Q2.pdf).

Ok thanks dude. Great info as usual. I have an I-551 stamp in my passport but they made it valid for only 6 months. I'll make an Infopass first to see if they can help at all too. Sigh.

You definitely want this corrected. I had a wrong date too and it almost cost me my naturalization.

I definitely will be getting it corrected and will post updates here. I think I saw your post about it in a different thread about the same topic. My only concern about my GC is that it currently says it will expire in 2019. I don't want USCIS to think my husband and I need to file RoC by then or something ridiculous like that and for us to get in trouble when it was really the agency's error. I'm glad I caught it immediately and obviously will file I-90 or whatever else I have to do but we all know how slow USCIS can be to catch up. What ended up happening with your GC, if you don't mind sharing here??

Yes. I can’t quote it here right now (sorry I’m in the hospital) but try checking April filers on k1 to AOS filers. It’s in the last few pages.

It does but I'm not the only one. It seems to be kinda common. The agency even did a big recall this year for incorrectly printed GC's issued for RoC cases.

  • 2 months later...

Updates in case others find this thread in the future and are curious as to how it turned out: I received my CORRECT GC. I'm not sure how or why it got approved so fast but here is my timeline.

10/26/18: I-90 with incorrect GC delivered

11/6/18: Text msg with receipt number & confirmation case was received

11/8/18: Request for expedite due to USCIS error

11/9/18: Receipt notice in mail & text msg biometrics was scheduled.

11/12/18: Expedite denied due to no biometrics yet (oops that was my mistake)

11/16/18: Biometrics appointment letter received. Scheduled for 11/26

11/19/18: Walk-in biometrics. Text msg later that biometrics were being reviewed. Emailed senator to assist in expediting

11/21/18: Second expedite request

11/26/18: Expedite denied again

11/28/18: Received letter from senator's office confirming that they will see if they can assist me; didn't get my hopes up

12/12/18: Text msg for I-90 approval 🙊

12/17/18: Card production ordered

12/18/18: Card produced

12/19/18: Card picked up by USPS

12/22/18: Card delivered

So you sent your GC with the initial I-90? I read so often about rfes being issued where they ask for the GC when the applicant has already sent it.

Yeah I sent it in with the form. I used two small binder clips to attach it all together. I was actually really nervous that they were gonna send an RFE for the card. Thank the UNIVERSE they did not. I meant to even take a photo of the card attached to the I-90 in case they did send an RFE and I had to send them proof I already sent it. But I was so frazzled the day I mailed it that I forgot to take a picture. Anyway, no RFE (hooray).

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm sure it will help others who might have to go through this.
