You can't submit a request once it hits 6 months, it has to be past 8 months.

JJA is correct  and here is the explanation  from USCIS.

We have posted a “Receipt date for a case inquiry" in the table below to show when you can inquire about your case. If your receipt date is before the “Receipt date for a case inquiry", you can submit an “outside normal processing time” service request online.

Yes and when have we have had any confidence in what NVC or USCIS has stated? Yup that's the answer. So I post what the official position that either are taking. Nothing says you can't submit one but remember your mileage may vary. :dancing:

I feel ya.  I'm at 6.5 months now, when I originally filed the processing time was 4.5 to 6.5 so I would have been able to submit an inquiry right now...but the prcoessing times have increased twice since then so back to waiting....

As @Greenbaum said, mileage varies. John Smith from Arkansas can take 4 months while Jane Doe from California takes 10 months. They could have the same background and it’ll still vary. USCIS work in mysterious ways

try not to worry - it’ll come. Don’t give up

With this process u cant give up.

I don't think I'd consider it giving up, there just isn't much you can realistically do at this stage but wait until you're outside normal processing times.
