I don't think any of the top ranking European countries are truly socialist. There are some countries that are more socialist than others.

America has social programs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_programs_in_the_United_States Aka welfare programs that use taxes to fund the lowest class (distribution of funds from higher classes to lower classes in society). We just don't have as many as a lot of the more socialist ranking countries.

No European country is classless, that is like arguing black and white issues, when everything is really just different shades of gray.

This is true.

All of the major economies of the world employ some time of hybrid.

Lol , cherry pick much?

Socialism:

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

2a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property

b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism andcommunism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism

means of production
noun
  1. (especially in a political context) the facilities and resources for producing goods.
"in this society, the means of production are communally owned"

Thank you for making my point.  What you are trying to say is socialism... isn’t.  True, the state controls the schools via the education board (and other entities).  But teachers in one state are not all the same.  Not paid the same.  Ditto across various states.   Sorry, I just can’t see how school in the US is a socialistic thing.  Maybe I just take it for granted or something.

This is the meaning of socialism I think of when it comes up.  From dictionary.com:

so·cial·ism
ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/
noun
  1. a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
    synonyms: leftismwelfarismMore

    • policy or practice based on the political and economic theory of socialism.
      synonyms: leftismwelfarismMore

    • (in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.

Sounds like you are pretty confused as to what a "state" is when it comes to economics.

That’s me.  Confused.  At least I am not the one that thinks socialism is a good thing.  :)

WIsh you had showed up while I was in Monroe, we could have discussed this over manly libations, instead of bickering on the interwebs.  Your treat, of course, since you make so much dough in the auto industry.

- cops are owned by the state (city, county, state, federal)

Firefighter owned by the state ( city)

-trash collection run by the state( city)

- college regulated and funded by the state(funded and ran by their respective county/state. Grants and loans given by federal)

-public roads ( owned by state, city, county, federal).

-farmers are highly subsidized  by the state government to keep our food reserves high. ( Federal)

- banks are regulated and bailed out using funds from the state ( federal)

It's all socialism. Every major country in the world uses both capitalism and socialism to optimize their GDP output.

The only thing we should be debating is where we draw the line between socialist and capitalist policies.

And yes i live just up telegraph/75 from Monroe, that would have been possible.
