Hi! Good Day..

I am February 2018 filers

i just recently checked my aos status and found an update which says that i am ready for interview since march 24 but didn't receive any updates or letter. Anyone with the same experience? and also i am concern with followings:

1. The medical that I've submitted was done August last year, is there a chance that the are going to require for a new medical exam?

2. My Passport is still in my maiden name and was planning to change it this month here in SFO but saw the update and they might schedule me to an interview  anytime soon and my passport will still be in process. should it be a problem that my passport is still on my maiden name or should i renew it?

Thank you so much! hope someone will enlighten me with this.

Even though your case has moved to 'ready for interview', you won't actually receive a letter until it changes to 'An interview has been scheduled' (or similar wording). For me it only took a month or so to go from 'ready for interview' to 'interview scheduled', but for others it takers many months. It just depends on your USCIS field office.

In answer to your questions:

1. It really depends on when you have your interview. In theory, as long the interview takes place within a year of you applying for AOS, your medical should be fine. However, I have seen on here some people have had to do another medical, depends on the Interviewer.

2. I'm not sure on this point. I would suggest renewing it, as long as you will have it back in time for the interview. Perhaps someone else can advise

We had our interview almost 1 year after receiving notice that we were ready for interview.

We received a notice that we needed a new medical exam as our AOS interview was more than 1 year after the prior medical exam.

We needed our passports at our AOS interview without any name change.

My understanding is that if you apply for AOS and submit a medical that took place within the year prior to applying:

- The medical is valid for one year from the date you applied for AOS.

- If the interview takes place within that year, another medical isn't required. This was the case for me as time between my medical and interview was over a year, but the interview took place less than a year after I applied for AOS. It also mentions this on the USCIS website and I took a copy of the web page with me incase I was challenged.

- If the time between applying for AOS and your interview is more than a year, which would have been the case in your situation, then another medical is required.

There have been cases though where people in my situation were asked to submit another medical, even though it goes against what USCIS say on their website.

This may be helpful.  The specific language from our letter is, "As of June 1, 2014, USCIS has limited the validity period for all Forms I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, to one year from the date of submission to USCIS.  Base on these new regulations, your I-693 Medical Examination has expired."  I believe this is 1 year from the date of submission of the I-693, not the I-485, as this is the plain reading of the language and we received this letter less than one year after our I-485 AOS application was submitted.

We luckily got a letter as otherwise, we would not have known.

But this is just one letter and one experience.  Your mileage may vary.

We did not have to get a new medical and the interview was 15 months months after filing AOS from K-1. If you need a new medical, they will tell you.  No need to speculate. If you get an RFE for medical, you must get a new one.

You do not need to change your passport before interview. They know who you are and have all your paperwork.

Good luck!
