Hi all,

I am planning to got to India for my wife's CR1 interview. So I am purchasing a return ticket for myself. So I was wondering what I can do to ensure to bring my wife together in the same flight since I don't think it is a good idea to buy her ticket without getting her visa. How can I book my return flight along with her as an added companion on the return leg?  I will have about 5-7 days after her interview date for the return flight. I am worried I might not get her ticket on the same flight itinerary if I purchase her ticket that late.

Don't buy a ticket for her yet. I know that you really want to fly back with your wife. However, the risk is high. No matter how sure you are to get an approval for the visa, there is still a risk of denial. Even the visa is approved, there is lots of things can happen, such as the visa is not arrived before the date you decided to fly back, administrative processing (AP) after approval, required more documents (221g), misspelled name on visa and lots more risk.

NEVER purchase a ticket before having the visa in hand unless it is refundable......

1.  Fly to India

2.  Cancel your return flight

3.  Book one-way tickets back to the US for you and your wife.after her she has the visa.

Problem solved.

I'm not sure how Visa's are issued in India after the interview. My visa came through courier and took longer than I expected. I was put into general administrative processing for a week and a half. Not sure if it was for security checks or something on my file but it took a little longer than I expected. My son on the other hand had his visa in hand 2 days after the interview. You never know how things will unfold and like what others have already mentioned I would be careful about making any firm commitments.
