Shipping belongings from Australia to US

I'm beginning to research how to get my stuff from Sydney to the US. Any Australians here who can recommend a good shipping company? We likely won't be shipping any furniture, mostly clothes/personal belongings in large suitcases or boxes. Thanks!

We did some research for this and actually found that Australia Post had good international freight rates compared to other private companies (DHL, etc.) since we aren't planning to ship large items like furniture. Some international shipping companies will require that you meet a minimum weight amount before you can actually use their services. You can calculate international freight shipping on the Australia Post site here: https://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/calculate-postage-delivery-times/#/. Alternatively, it may be cheaper to just pay for extra baggage on your flight if you are only taking a few additional suitcases.

If anyone else has any other recommendations we'd be interested to hear as well!

I'd also heard that Australia Post did reasonable rates for shipping by sea (if you're in no rush to get the items) Just checked it out and for a 10kg box its about $98 so I guess dependent on your airline and how soon you need it that's a decent option!

Thanks for sharing!

As previously mentioned, in small loads shipping can be relatively expensive... I am currently using Conroy Removals to ship one piece of furniture, and 4 boxes.. cost us $2000. Previously I have shipped a 1cubic metre box myself from Melbourne to Alaska and the cost was $1600 all up... you may well find that buying extra baggage  allowance on your flight is more convenient and not that much more expensive.. it certainly saves the hassles of all the documentation required when sending unaccompanied goods

PM me if you want ..

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! We aren't shipping any furniture, but have opted to go with WorldBaggage.com to ship 3x30kg boxes. Obviously the shipment hasn't happened yet, but will in a couple weeks. Hopefully the reviews are accurate and it's smooth sailing! :)
