Glad to hear the doctor is nice! I've read that most people are still approved even if they need a psychiatric test so IF you do need one, I hope everything goes well for you! If you don't mind me asking, what did your GP letter say?

My letter said "She has no significant health problems that warrant any undue concerns and is not on any regular medication at the present time", along with a brief paragraph about when I broke my ankle 3 years ago. My depressive episode was 25 years ago. I probably didn't need a letter but I wanted to cover all bases.

Thank you!! I hope so! I think I'm stressed because my notes really don't say much at all and where I live, I never see the same doctor more than once so my GP doesn't really know me. I burst into tears on the phone to my doctor when they said the letter could take a month because I feel like being on medication during a difficult time in my life could ruin my wedding :(

In my experience this is the most stressful stage. It will bring up feelings of being judged and feeling vulnerable. I felt sick for weeks before because I'm a sexual assault survivor. Taking my clothes off in front of a stranger is traumatic for me and can make me experience PTSD symptoms if I'm not careful.

It is really stressful dealing with the GP surgery. I gave them 4 weeks notice and they only just got our letters done on time. When you can't control this part it can bring up all those feelings again and trigger some horrible feelings.

Are you practising good self-care right now? I understand the pressure you're feeling. Keep communicating and getting support. This part will be over soon.

The staff are lovely, honest. The radiologist is jolly and sensitive. The doctor is nice. They are all very professional. It is actually more boring than stressful. Lots of waiting around.

Yes, thanks to people like you who provide good feedback posts, I am no longer scared of being treated like a sub human. I am just worried that what I provide will not be enough, and I that I could be delayed further. I don't know what I would do if I was told I couldn't be with my fiance because of my past struggles. Still, I am striving to remain somewhat optimistic.

Thanks everyone :)

Alright, best course of action I imagine will be for your doctor to do a write up of what lead you to be prescribed medication etc, and that they do not feel there is an issue anymore, and you have recovered well. I wrote up my own letter and asked my GP to sign if they agreed with what I'd written. Here's an example:

"

RE: Name, Address, DOB

To whom it may concern,

My name is ________________; I am  a general practitioner of _____________________.

I am aware of Lisa’s medical history, which includes her past struggle with self injury, and issues regarding her mental health.

Lisa underwent psychiatric evaluation in April 2016, and went on to successfully complete treatment for her diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

The treatment consisted of weekly meetings with a psychotherapist carrying out Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (“DBT”).

Upon review, Lisa is doing very well, and has done so for the past 18 months; there has been no cause for concern. I believe that Lisa has fully recovered, and it is my opinion that Lisa is of no risk to herself, or others.

"

Along with this  I will take a detailed report from my therapist, and a letter from my psychiatrist. Hopefully that will cover everything on Meisha's list.

I am in the same boat as you, I don't believe we will be denied, but we might just suffer delays. We will get there in the end :)

Thank you for this, I just edited it and send it to my GP. Trying to be positive!!

Yes exactly! I understand the NHS is stretched but it's so upsetting how everything takes so long with them. I thought post NOA2 would be the easy part but at this point I feel more anxious than ever. I'm so thankful for reviews like yours though, it really helps. And I'm glad to hear the doctors were nice to you and the experience wasn't triggering.

Just wanted to offer my experience. I requested a letter from my GP prior to my medical but unfortunately it was not detailed enough. You need more than “so and so is not a harm to themselves or others”. They want details - history, diagnosis, what treatment was given, information about specialist services provided, etc etc. My mental history was quite extensive but I managed to get another letter from my GP (four pages of notes!) within a week for £30. I was approved at the medical centre a couple of days later.

My fiancé suffered from some anxiety/ low mood a few years ago but nothing was diagnosed, no medication given, so he was never actually deemed to be “depressed”, just had low mood.

His GP wrote the isn’t a harm to himself or others bit, do you think it will be ok? Or do you think he will need more? His medical is tomorrow so I guess we will find out...

If it's on his medical summary but there was no treatment given, he' might need a letter from his GP stating that they didn't feel any medication or specialized treatment was required, and that they have no concerns.

Please let us know how the medical goes :)
