MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano announced that the DFA will be opening 100,000 new passport appointment slots on Thursday.

About 50,000 online appointment slots will be opened at 12 p.m. while another 50,000 will be opened at 9 p.m., Cayetano said in a press briefing.

Now for the "new improved" system to keep the fixxers from gobbling up all the openings.

On chance I was able to secure a slot 2 weeks ago.  Prior to that, all slots were filled/unavailable.

Fiance went to appointment but needed a municipal BC.  She brought PCA one.  So she'll go back Monday to try again.  Can't leave without a passport. :-)

The new system was to have taken affect 1 June.   Still it took a couple weeks for DFA to announce there are openings.  That should say volumes for how the fixxers had "consumed" all the appointments before.

She called the office in Tacloban before I was able to secure an appointment online.

Their advice was to appear in person and ask outside for someone who would be willing to sell their slot to her...:jest::jest:

I don't doubt it ..  The comment was tongue in cheek ;)

DFA has changed systems three times now .. fixxers took over the other two systems within weeks.  Now system 3 came online in June.

When she told me that it brought back memories of living in/dealing with the State of Louisiana.  Everyone seemed to expect something under the table to get anything done.

Please guys let’s ask the govt to bring back the walk-in system. I don’t mind the long line because I used to get it done within a day. This online system is nested with corruption (morning slots are sold to agents/fixers; if you want to find out go check travel agents and they’d charge you for that service no less than 4500 pesos). I also worry for those who have no computer/internet to keep on refreshing the browser from dusk til dawn just to get the slot. This is totally ridiculous and stupid. GONE IN 60 SECONDS. Just two days ago the DFA announced it opened 50,000 new slots for online passport appointment in their Manila office. And just within a few hours all slots were taken.

An EAR source said she was notified while heading to work. She planned to apply when she got to the office, but when she arrived there a few minutes later it was already too late.

Another source complained why the slots were only opened in Manila.

“Adto man sad sila manghatag sa mga hayahay na, ari na sad diri sa uban,” she said.

.... as usual the fixxors have taken over the appt system.        Gotta say - that new system really worked...   not

The new system is in test phase in only one office.  It will be opened to the Manila offices in July and country wide in August.  Somehow they are connecting your advance fee payment receipt number to the appointment.  If you don't show up to the appointment you lose your payment.

YMMV

Starting June 2018, those who are renewing or applying for passports in Aseana (this is over by MOA)  will be required to prepay their passport processing fees using the DFA ePayment Portal.

Yes.  That is the one and only office using the new system.  In July it rolls out to the rest of the Manila offices.

YMMV
