Being a little more especific....just your Social security card, drivers license or you mean like petition the courts to change i.e Jane Doe to Gina Newman. Are you in the USA currently? I mean living here in the US and not waiting to move to the US with your spouse visa.

10/22/2018                Card was picked up by the USPS

10/24/2018                EAD in hand. F%^&& finally

12/28/2018                Interview has been scheduled. Waiting for notification with date by snail mail

I Am not in the US. I want her to change to my last name, since Embassy do request the change to be sure of the relationship.

If you are filing for a spouse visa...means that you already have married. Is it not a custom to ask what your name you would want to go under after the marriage there? These changes happen usually then. A legal name change here in the US, since you already married for being able to file for a spouse Visa is only under a petition to the courts, as far as i am informed

Does your wife want to change her  last name? If so she would do it the way any other married person does in the US with the marriage certificate. 

 

BTW they do not require the wife to take on her husband's last name. It does not prove anything plus many prefer to keep their mane as is.

i dunno for ghana but in the US its typically done right after getting married - marriage certificate to social security and then DMV to change names there, and thats more or less it. i think you might have to do it through the courts if its been a certain length of time, but im not positive. When I married my ex, I did it soon after the wedding. ironic, seeing as I never even really used it except for legal purposes. hate that name as much as i hated him, but thats another story for another time LOLOL

 

having the same last name is not a requirement. Plenty of people do not have their spouses last name... all for a variety of reasons.

Filed everything ourselves with no RFE's or delays.

 

CR1 for Child under 21 (20 at time of filing)- Filed by LPR Spouse for his son

4/4/20     Mailed packet

4/12/20   NOA1 rec'd

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

9/15/22 APPROVED! Now to wait for NVC and interview....
