Hello, myself and my wife are working on getting things ready to start filing and I'm reading through about the medical. I was looking through the list of vaccinations I ma suppose to have or get however I have spoken to my birth mother and it turns out I wasn't given any injections growing up. If I have missed some when young is that going to make a difference after I get all the ones I can now?

Thank you in advance!

No it doesnt matter if you get them when you're younger or now it's all the same vaccinations. It may just cost you a little bit since you dont have them.

If you had chicken pox you can avoid the varicella vaccination by getting a blood test and proving you have had chicken box before that can save you 1 vaccine. There are some vaccines that may not apply to you depending on your age I believe 1 on the list was for babies only and 1 was for those above 70 but check with your doc.

Thank you, that is a worry gone away, ish.

I'm 23 so there's going to be a few needles involved I believe.

Again thank you for your response it was very helpful!

No worries and just a heads up vaccinations arent always forever some last 10 years some last 20 years  so it is very common for people to have to get more vaccinations are they get older.

Good luck with everything!

You can most likely get at least the mmr series through your nhs doctor as you didn’t get them as a child. I found out I didn’t have the mmr vacine, just two of the components separately, so was able to get the series done as my petition was being processed to avoid paying for it at the embassy doctors. It’s one you would want the full series done as there are multiple outbrakes over here at the moment.

If your question is...do you have have to catch up on all the baby shots you missed, the answer is NO. You only get the ones age appropriate for an adult. Assuming you are 19 yrs or older:

  • Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted also. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval".
  • Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They also waive it in London for the reason "not routinely available".
  • Influenza – Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. If you get processed before October, this shot will be waived.

So....looks like you probably need only 2 jabs if you hold off on MMR until right before the medical so a second MMR too close to the first is medically inappropriate. You get to skip it.
