Going to Amsterdam before the medical

HI, my partner (based in the US and me in the UK) and I are going to file the I-129F over the next couple of weeks. How long is it until the medical? I'm asking since a friend of mine is coming to Europe from the US and we have a trip to Amsterdam pre-booked. I don't smoke or do any recreational drugs, however, while in Amsterdam, if I were to take a few puffs or do any edibles, would that show up during my medical exam and do they check for weed? Is it too risky to do anything, what are your thoughts? ;)

If you mean the I-129f, have no fear, you will be waiting a LONG time. Right now it's taking 6-8 months from filing to even get the first papers looked at and processed! Have an awesome time in Amsterdam, and eat some Dutch apple pie for me!

It isn't a problem at all......unless you want to risk a one year ban and required drug treatment.........You will be asked questions that you must answer truthfully......

My advice is to stay away from drugs.........just my 2 cents.

Oh I guess I was mainly answering the part about the timing for it showing up on a test. But that's a good point...it'll be interesting to see what happens with the MJ situation once it's fully legalized here in Canada this summer...

Yeah, this website has really been the saving grace for me...no need for a lawyer if you follow advice from this community as you prepare your i-129F packet! And it's good to know others are going through the process with you...

My partner lives in California, and while it is legal there it is not legal according to the Federal law, so the US takes it quite seriously. Ironically. Thanks!

yeah it's really complicated with the whole state law vs. federal thing. Lucky you planning a move to Cali! West Coast = Best Coast! Ironically when my visa comes through I'll be moving from the west coast of Canada to the east... Good luck!

Yes, indeed.  You would be surprised how often posters think that if you are going to live in a state where it is "legal", it won't affect your K-1.......wrong...

We had some people posting here with some really bad experiences with RapidVisa lately. It's worth a search through those topics to make sure you want to move forward with them.

Thanks Mollie!! I've read the reviews and also did research before moving forward with RapidVisa. I've concluded they're not the experts in terms of verifying the documents that you need e.g. confirming that your birth certificate is the right one, since there are a number of variations, country-by-country. However, I think if you use them to help prepare your documents and ensure you have sufficient proof to show the legitimacy of the relationship etc. In addition to guiding you through the process, that's where their services benefit. The RFE which delays some people, i don't think RapidVisa should be held accountable. But I could be wrong, will revist this comment once I get my K1 visa!! ;)
