You do not need a green card or extension letter for a job application. They can run your details through the SAVE system (I think that's what it is called) on your social security number. That will give them the ok.

Thank you. The human resources department asked for the original social security card on which it says only available with DHS authorization. That is why they asked for my green card and extension letter. It did work, but they were a little hesitant when they realized I only have 2 more months left on the extension letter.

And that is where they were wrong. You do not need the letter, the letter is for travel only. They need to check SAVE to get the DHS authorization. Not uncommon for HR to have no clue what they need to do and why.

However, you should have updated your SSC when you got your greencard, for one that does not have that statement. That statement is not for LPRs. You are an LPR, just a conditional one.

Does anyone know what's gonna happen if my 18 month extension letter expires? I only have 2 months left until it happens. I am in the process of starting a new job and they all look at me weird when they see my extension letter. I have applied for N400 but I don't know have any updates yet

Hi Alialina

I'm in the same boat, probably worse, my extension letter expires end of this month and yes you're right, when you show the expired Green Card and extension letter to employers you get weird looks and have to explain the whole process, that is unfair that we get  in this position because of their delays and their incompetence. Talk about frustrating, I'm sick of it.

Hello Feb,2018 filers. I don't know how many still waiting for approval as me. Today I called UCIS to make an inquiry that my case out of the processing time witch is 19.5 month at Vermont office and 18 months at Texas office, but the surprise was that my file has been transferred to local office which is the processing time is 22 to 39 months !!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone has similar situation?

Oh wow, what's your latest update? We we're "Case was Received" up until about the 4th of July, when we got the appointment for biometrics and rescheduled. Hope things pick up soon!

No, since my wife is from Canada, I think once she becomes a US Citizen, she will lose her ability to ever use their universal healthcare again. And universal healthcare is an on-going debate at best in the US, and it doesn't look like it will be anytime soon. Down the road when we retire, we might want to consider moving to Canada because of that haha, so if she gets her citizenship now, that no longer is an option.

Yikes! I'm guessing the RFE is probably the main reason is taking so long, as it seems like any deviation from the happy-path of this process seems to just extend it more and more.

Have you called USCIS and inquired about it? Additionally, I'm sure the end of the 18 month extension is looming, so have you called to get an infopass appointment to get your passport stamped?

Hey there guys,

I hope my journey is coming to an end. Just received notification that my n-400 interview has been scheduled. My I-751 is still pending as of Feb 2018. It has been transferred from Vermont to Texas then to Missouri. I applied for n-400 back in feb 2019. I hope its a combo interview, I'm really tired with this process and traveling all over the world with this extension letter which faded and you can barely see letters on it lol.
