I am just curious about language. We are expecting a baby in mid June and for the 6-8 months will mostly hear people speaking Tagalog. Once the visa is approved our baby will be here hearing mostly english. I hear it is easiest for children to learn languages at a young age and I want our child to be fluent in English and Tagalog.

For those with bi-lingual kids, what did you do? How well did your kids handle it?

My daughter hears only Russian at home and English in school or when she is with me.  She understands Russian very well and is speaking well enough to be able to have a conversation with her grandparents.

There is no doubt that the younger the child is the easier it will be to learn language

YMMV

When my family came, 2 step-daughters, teenager and a 6 year old, their adoption of the English language was very quick.  The older was taking English in school for 10 years, but native vs scholastic is very different!  She adapted awesomely!  The 6 year old....when she started school she had no English.  When we enrolled her in school she was placed in ESL...no problem!  This was August....by October she was speaking very good English and has advanced to the point where she is completely fluent...no more ESL after 2 years of it to understanding her native language, but not wanting to speak...even though it is HEAVILY encouraged by her mother and me(native English speaker).  The older goes back and forth between both languages like a pro!

My suggestion, as your child is so your, would be one speak only English and one speak only Tagalog.  When the child is older, they respond in the according language!

Good luck!  This is a good problem to have!

My daughter typically responds back to her mother in Russian unless she thinks it is a conversation I should know about, and then she will respond in English.

I never thought about that...They can plot against me :D

My wife teaches our kids Bisaya  because that is her language and they also are able to understand Tagalog as well due to having it on all day at the house.
