It's hard for me to imagine how your post will help anybody when you do not name the attorney.

If you lodged a complaint with the CA State Bar, he now has a complaint against him, no?

I'm sorry you've had an unfortunate experience with a less than stellar performer of the profession, but you may have gotten what you paid for. $1800 for a K1 is cheap in California. Immi lawyers in WV charge more than that.

I agree. $1800 is WAY cheap for California. I'm in Utah and got a quote for $3000 (and that is JUST the K-1 to get him here-the AOS and EAD are charged separately). And everyone says that things in Cali cost more than un Utah.

I'm sorry you had to go through this though. Best of luck to you in the future.

Please give her a break...she's just trying to share her experience here so other people will reconsider when hiring an immigration lawyer...

We used an Imm. lawyer from Cal and to us she was worthless. She was not worth 1 fricken dollar even though we succeeded, it almost ended up in complete disaster thanks to them. This lawyer did not have any complaints either and maybe she was beneficial to someone else but to us - nada.

My thought would be what does it matter what she posts, if your not in need of this lawyer etc information or interested to hear what she says about her case dont read it, probably most that have complained are past this point, and if you feel all her posts are the same intent use the block/ignore key or whatever its called then you wont be bothered. Why gripe, and complain about something that doesnt interest you?

Actually that's not the case, as least as far as my posts are concerned.

I'm concerned about any post which infers using an attorney is inadvisable. And it sure as hell is not because I'm "in the business".

You couldn't have had a more 'straight-forward' case than we did. At the end of the day, we still consulted with an attorney.

You never know when you might need the help of a lawyer.

The point is that the original conversation is a good one to have...and people here were just weighing in. Until it became a 'I DIDN'T ASK FOR YOUR HELP NOW DID I? SO STFU!' argument.

And that's just tiring.

OP doesn't even know what she's mad at since she took my head off about the $$ situation when I was actually agreeing witth her, lol. I'm not sat here crying about that, mind you, but it's a perfect example of being too much on the defensive to see what's actually being said. If OP doesn't want people to post a certain way or comment a certain way, OP should not start threads which call for participation.

when sanita got her 221 g and and told the CO recommended the visa be returned to america for denial.....i contacted several attorney's who worked on immigration cases..they were useless as teats on a tomcat...that never heard of a 221 g etc...

i did it myself, and reolved the issue with the consulate head in a phone call and 2 e-mails...

True - you never know when you might need the help of a lawyer. Which is why I hired one. It's kind of a "safety net" for me. I feel more secure knowing that they do this all the time and they know what they are doing. It takes a load off my shoulders and I know that if there are any problems, they will fix it. But I am lucky because I know I got a good immigration attorney. My dad is a lawyer and he personally knows the immigration attorney who took my case.

Anywho, it just makes me feel better. So that's why I did it. Many people choose not to hire an attorney and that's their choice.

All thats true and even myself have been "checking" out lawyers since we now have the 221g but it is a individual thing, again we read, we learn and we listen in the end we are responsible for the actions we take. Everything on here is someones experiences or opinions, they are all different nothing is set in stone from one couple to the next, only wishing the best outcome for all.

I will apologize when I am wrong about something - and I was wrong in biting your head off Lisa- I did not mean to! I have just been really feeling like I can not seem to say anything right to appease anyone - I guess my trying to post a thing about my experience and just trying to give a little warning was going to get little pokes of we can not help you, call the state bar - maybe someone could have helped, how would that person know that no one can help and I am sorry if I take that personally - my first mistake. Participation is great! Let it flow! As far as emotions are concerned - people are right about that my emotions are fired up about changing this system and I am not fighting wiht anyone on here anymore - I will write to my hearts content and everyone can say what they want - if you want comment back from me - let me know.

It's ok Aicha..and ty....but just keep in mind for the most part, people here want to support you...and most of the comments given past/present/future were/will be done to help, not criticize...

The most helpful attorney we consulted with this time around was Laurel Scott. But she takes only difficult cases and is at capacity. We did a phone and email consult. She basically outlined options and guided me in how we might deal with the fact of a previous successful K1 that did not result in an immediate marriage.

After we get out NOA2s I'll probably post in greater detail about our journey so far -- it does have unusual aspects.
