for the peace in mind, i will bring the old passport to the interview. You never know what the office thinks in mind. Just be well prepared with every piece of supporting documents.

yes, depending on where you traveled in past passport

are you a young man that could have visited a country with a terrorist training camp?

not asking but telling you what i was told

even me, a woman who has made 6 trips to Africe had my old passport retunred after renewal (with holes punched in to invalidate it along with letter saying take this with new passport when you  travel

you are Caadian and no problem and most countries can bring up on computer where you have traveled but if why not avoid any issues just bring it

BTW, it also helps to have it in case the new one is stolen or lost

In my case I shred my old passports because I do not like them to be around the house.  So I cannot bring my old passports.  To me that is a stupid request because really who keeps old passports.

Who keeps old passports?

Maybe forward thinking people going through immigration process who want to cross all their t’s and dot their i’s with the mind of being able to present irrefutable evidence of places they’ve been to should they be required to do so.

And I’m certain some have other relevant reasons for doing so also. It may sound like a stupid request to you, it certainly isn’t to the person asking for it.

I do.  They're interesting pieces of my past.  Why keep anything sentimental? Because we are individuals. :)

OP yes bring it if you have it.

I most certainly keep all mine. Sentimental value but also the fact that I would never get rid of anything that is immigration related until the day I become a citizen. You never know what they'll ask for and there's no reason not to keep something so small that doesn't take up any space in the house anyway.

Yes but the way the people here steal your identity (we have had 27 cases of ID theft in the first year of me being here). I shred any information that is not needed.

I have had 1 and I've lived here for 5 years.  But maybe being Canadian prepared me better?  My husband has only had his identity taken once, and we know exactly who by.  Unfortunately it took 7 years to get his credit back.

If you have your identity stolen it won't have anything to do with an old passport laying in a drawer somewhere in the house. So you can safely save it.

You’ve had 27 cases of ID theft in one year or did I misinterpret your post? That definitely couldn’t have had anything to do with keeping old/expired passports. I’ve lived roughly 20 years in North America, Canada and the US combined, and I’ve never had my ID stolen. Not once!

I should be specific btw .. My id wasn't stolen but someone was using my bank card, so I had it replaced.   And someone once applied for a credit card in my husband's name and never paid for what they bought when the bill came.
