The shooter at VirginiaTech didn't need GOD!! He needed a #######!! and some poontang!

Every wacko that goes on a shooting spree IS NOT getting laid!

I think you're on to something here.

Look at suicide bombers.... typically young, single, and sometimes even virgins. Wow!

Shooting sprees; going postal, taking hostages at someone's job, barricading in a house with an ex-lover.... it's the EX part that gets it going, and the usual targets are EX lovers and their NEW lovers.

I don't think we need a scientific study to prove this theory. LOS (Lack of sex) leads to shooting sprees. So, please do your part......

Maybe not in YOUR state, but my mother remembers clearly being forced to pray in Connecticut and Texas. Optional school-led prayer has also been slapped down by the SCOTUS, so whether it's mandatory or optional is irrelevant since if an authority figure (i.e. a school administrator or teacher) is leading prayer, children may feel compelled to participate, hence it doesn't pass the sniff test.

I take a bit of offence here.

Price of free speech.
I live in MD (which, unlike NJ, is travellable*, and less expensive)
The closest NJ ever came to being "my" state was that 1 year (1976-1977), only due to my dad's having sabbatical leave from UCalgary
The states I'd actually even bother claiming as "mine" would be GA (first US job, and GC) and TX (due to a Dallas-area pastor who, when I phoned, could actually understand--without suggesting a "pat" NON-solution, unlike even my own parents--a situation I was going through at the time)--due to both having NONSTOP connexions (Delta from ATL; American from DFW; at-worst, Air-Canada from IAH) to YYC.

To term Alberta as "my" province is cent-percent accurate.

*NJ's closeness to NYC is what makes it untravellable; there are no reasonable (maximum of ONE aircraft-swap, which MUST NOT BE at Canada's hell-portal aka "Pearson") flights to Calgary from any of the three airports there.

What point are you trying to make? You didn't answer any of the points I made...you only went off on a directionless rant about airlines, airports, and places you've lived. Frankly, none of this is relevant to the discussion.

And? Your point being? You're the one who brought up the Smokestack State, not me.

Besides, what state you're in NOW is completely irrelevant as school-led prayer is illegal in all fifty states; that's what happens when the SCOTUS makes a ruling. It applies everywhere.

'course, I have a way around that--known as "Calgary Catholic Education Board", as any child I produce would have dual Canuck-Yank citizenship.

What garbage. These cynical chopf#cks want to use the deaths of 32 innocent people to promote their own agenda of reintroducing prayer in public schools.

And let's not forget that schools in the UK (unless church schools obviously), do not have any religious activities, unless in a Religious Education class (in which they learn about ALL faiths). When was the last time there was a mass shooting in a UK school?

Since you asked...

Dunblane, 1996.

UK schools do not have mass shootings because children find it difficult to access guns. I would say that bullying and discipline are bigger problems in UK schools though.

First of all, Dunblane was perpetrated by an adult who did not attend the school.

No access to guns is, IMO, an excellent thing. However, my point is also that I don't think lack of religion is a reason for these shootings. I'm sure if it was, someone would find an alternative method to kill masses of children who were "not with God".

With Dunblane, the shooter also was not a student, but an adult. It was more akin to last year's Amish schoolhouse shooting in Pennsylvania.

US universities are full of places to pray, around where I work there are posters up for religious groups on having meetings everywhere on campus. I really don't understand what point these people are trying to make here. I think they perhaps need to be reminded that some of the worst cases of child abuse have been performed by priests, so clearly prayer and closeness to Jesus doesn't stop you from being a sick ######.

i am getting sick of this subject. It is used very often around where i live. first of all, the idea that god was taken out of school is complete bullsh!t. if you are silently saying a prayer in your mind, how the hell would anyone know?

prayer was never taken out of school. FORCED prayer was taken out, and rightly so.

The priests/religious leaders who would do such things are not close to Jesus, they just give off the false appearance that they are. They are hypocrites. Just wanted to say that. :P

This also gives the choice to choose your deity, or none at all. If FORCED prayers to Muhammad were instated, I have a feeling quite a few Christians would suddenly be warming to the ACLU...
